At last, Labour develop some sort of deterrent…perhaps!
The Good Character policy guidance used by Home Office caseworkers when assessing applications for British citizenship have changed from 10 February 2025 (technically actually a clarification, rather than a change) and will, fortunately have a significant negative impact upon people with refugee status who apply for British citizenship after that date.

DrillUK, baby, DrillUK says ReformUK
Not only will Reform scrap the “net stupid zero” on day 1 of a Reform government, but it will drill, baby, drill!
Reform UK has promised to reverse the government’s ban on fresh North Sea oil and gas drilling as a “day one” priority if elected to power, with the taxpayer taking a stake in the projects to create a National Wealth Fund as well as uncementing the irresponsible sealing of the sites by Ed Milliband so that the UK can be “Great Fracking Britain”, said Richard Tice, the party’s deputy leader.
Richard Tice has met with senior UK oil executives recently to pledge the party’s support for the industry, and to remove the block on fresh North Sea exploration licences. It will review the Government’s windfall tax, said Tice, but a future Reform government can’t promise to remove these because we don’t know how much damage the Liebour Government may have done to the economy, but if windfall taxes replain they will no longer be added to Government expenditure but will be part of the creation of a UK Sovereign Wealth Fund.
Tice told the energy bosses to expect a reversal of the Labour government’s ban alongside billions of pounds of public partnership in their projects if the party comes to power in the 2029 election. The public partnership would effectively hand taxpayers an equity stake in North Sea fossil fuel developments, via a Sovereign Wealth Fund, which have stalled in recent months.

“The Reform UK Manifesto will promise to end the ban on fresh exploration licences for new oil and gas fields. ….and As long as there’s oil in the North Sea, we should be drilling for it,…..There are clear benefits for securing jobs and energy independence.” said Tice, “There’s about to be a sea change in less than four years.”
He added that the executives “should be getting their licence applications ready for Reform to fast-track when it comes into government … I want these firms to know they are working with a shadow government that is willing to tick the box as soon as we get in.”
Reform’s early move coincides with calls from Donald Trump for the UK government to “get their energy costs down” by ending “costly and unsightly windmills” and “incentivise modernised drilling in the North Sea, where large amounts of oil lay waiting to be taken”, despite the US president’s claims being rebuffed by green groups, which argue that volatile global energy market prices are at the root of the UK’s high energy costs. Tice acknowledged that “the huge cost of energy stops heavy industry basing itself in the UK and Reform UK will dismantle the gbaiovernment’s net zero agenda, and may includes goals for onshore and offshore wind only if it uses systems built in the UK and coupled with modular nuclear systems and If people want to invest in renewables without subsidies they’d be welcome to do that”.

Many experts have suggested that most of Ed Silliband’s system will be outdated before they’re bought on line and Tice warned earlier this month that the party plans to block “net stupid zero” infrastructure including renewable energy projects in Lincolnshire where the party has control of the county council, going on to say “We will attack, we will hinder, we will delay, we will obstruct, we will put every hurdle in your way. It’s going to cost you a fortune and you’re not going to win. So give up and go away.”
